人在江湖 淡水河溯河行動

Wu Mali
By the River, On the River, Of the River
A community based eco-art project

2 May ~ 20 May, 2006
Preview: 7:00pm, Sat., 02 May
Closing ceremony: 9:30pm, Sat., 20 May

Every environmental problem is, at heart, a cultural problem.
The Tamsui River is the major waterway of northern Taiwan. But as we have developed our cities, we have gradually forgotten her history and the dramatic changes that have taken place in her ecosystem. Even in the process of restoring the scenic conditions along the river\'s edge, we have overlooked what she means in our lives and our society, merely treating her as a symbol of recreational culture… This art project is intended to mobilize our feelings toward our land and our environmental consciousness to change our relationship with the river, by personally experiencing/viewing it. Traveling by water and by land along the Tamsui River and its tributaries – the Dahan, the Xindian and the Keelung – we will create a Green Map of the Tamsui River, in collaboration with historians, artists, environmentalists, community history experts and educators. We will also hold four River Dialogues. Our hope is through the form of art to amplify our vision of how we use and manage our rivers, to explore the relationship between rivers and people, to enrich our imaginations regarding rivers, and to imbue the subject of river conservation with a deeper understanding of its cultural dimensions. \n\n \nRiver Tracing: \nPress conference: 5 May 10:00am, at Kuandu harbour \n\n \n5 May: Tamsui River, Dahan River\n",1]
